Ordinarily, a ride from Lands End to John O’Groats would involve weeks and months of training to ensure that the rider is fit enough to meet the challenge. Gina is no different – she is riding on a turbo trainer and going for brisk walks when the days are too cold to ride safely*, and riding on hilly roads when it is safe to do so.

I have always loved exploring the countryside and I grew up mostly in Derbyshire within easy reach of the moors. However, I absolutely hated organised sport at school and was so hopeless at hockey and netball that I was frequently ordered off the pitch mid-game and punished by being made to run circuits round the field for the remainder of the period, which I infinitely preferred.

My name is Gina Harris, I am nearly 82 years old and I want to bicycle from Lands End to John O. Groats or as some people call it for short – Le Jog. I will not be going with an organised group but my son will turn up to ride with me from time to time and a friend, Paul Webster, will join me in Warrington to ride through the North to John O Groats. And who knows, perhaps other people may come along.
