Day 5, to Tiverton

The Northlake B&B was not exactly where I’d plotted it as being on the Garmin, so we set off up the hill (no surprises there!) out of sync with the device and trying to find the route. It felt like the right direction though. The hill was long, and we climbed steadily – endlessly, it seemed.

When the Garmin eventually awoke and urged me to descend one of the enormously steep hills on either side I did not feel like obliging it. A page torn from an AA Motoring Atlas suggested that a descent would not be necessary, so we followed that – but, unfortunately, this ended up meaning that we had to climb more hills that we would have done if we’d just followed the Garmin.

The Motoring Atlas ended up leading us onto a hill that climbed forever. I don’t find a long steady slog, it’s the nasty little spiky hills that I really detest.

We eventually arrived at the Angel Guesthouse in Tiverton which was lovely, and Paul was keen to go for a curry; so I went with him. The curry was delicious, but it took forever to be served (which is my excuse for why I didn’t complete my blog yesterday!)

Stats

28.1 miles (143.55 miles total), 1,850ft ascent, 2,350ft descent
