About My Challenge

My name is Gina Harris, I am nearly 82 years old and I want to bicycle from Lands End to John O. Groats or as some people call it for short – Le Jog. I will not be going with an organised group but my son will turn up to ride with me from time to time and a friend, Paul Webster, will join me in Warrington to ride through the North to John O Groats. And who knows, perhaps other people may come along.

My journey will begin on the 27 or 28 May and I hope to arrive on the 23 June, by which point I will have travelled about 950 miles and more if I get lost! If I do manage to complete my challenge, at 82 years old, I will be the oldest woman ever to bike the length of Britain.

My goal is to raise money for Womens Aid and Refuge who help Women and their children escape from Domestic Abuse and Control.
During the Covid lockdowns I had been shocked to hear about the appalling increase in domestic violence that is ruining the lives of so many women and their children and I thought perhaps an elderly woman achieving a long bike ride might also help these particular charities and I could combine a worthwhile cause with a personal challenge.

On the way, In view of my age I won’t be camping or carrying camping equipment but instead will book accommodation at each stage. I will not be staying in smart hotels but mainly in hostels and Air B&Bs. Of course I am quite nervous that sometimes I will get too tired to make it to my accommodation but I must stay positive and cross my fingers.

I will write a few notes on each day’s ride and you will be able to read about my adventures here, on this website.

    1. Dear Mo
I remember you well, the last time we met was when you lived in York.
I care passionately about combatting domestic abuse, and thank you so very much for donating, that is so nice of you.
I hope we meet up again sometime.
      Much love
      Gina.

  2. I’ve just found out about your challenge. Does your route take you through Worcester? It would be great to accompany you for a bit if you do, also I can do an article in the local paper if you want. If there’s anything you need on the way through please get in touch.
