Day 3, Wootton Wawen

It has been suggested that I really should give a little bit more information about the bike rides that I’ve been enjoying, so I have tried to get the dreaded Garmin to wake up and record my ride. Unfortunately it seems that the battery is conking out – or perhaps it just feels a bit unloved! I’ll do my best with Komoot mapping and photos of my mileage meter after each ride. I certainly don’t want to jeopardise my chance of raising funds to help the increasing number of abuse victims (please don’t forget to donate to the charities that I support using the links on the left hand side of the page). People have been so generous with help, even though most families are finding it hard themselves in these difficult times.

Anyway, back to the rides. Yesterday I set off to gallop (a bit of wishful thinking there) up the hill and past the rubbish dump, but this time I turned towards Gay Hill and once at the top I turned on to Dark Lane – which is always so pleasing because it’s a bit hilly and yet it feels quite easy and pleasant in both directions! It was nice to reach Batemans Lane and the pond with all its friendly ducks and geese. I always wish I had some special treats for them, but then perhaps I would hang about for hours and get no miles done at all.

In Houndsfield Lane I crossed the ford and, as usual, wondered how the water level can be so low even when it hasn’t stopped raining. Even so, and because I am a wimp, I used the bridge. In Hockley Heath I turned into quiet and pretty Nuthurst Lane, ignored the left hand turn, and continued to cross over the motorway and onward towards Copt Green. A lovely long down hill begins here which it is well worth paying for with a bit of a slog uphill and on to Lowsonford.

In Wootton Wawen I stopped at the Yew Tree craft centre for a coffee and my sandwiches. It was full of cyclists, but I had the road to myself as I set off back towards Henley and then through small roads towards Blunts Green and back to Danzey Green and lovely Pig Trot Lane. I was heading for Illshaw Heath and finally Gay Hill and home – where I tried to map it all out on Komoot.

Today I completed 47.56 miles.
